Trademark Search

What Is a Trademark Search?

A trademark search is the process of comparing a trademark name, logo, slogan or other distinctive sign that is intended for registration against trademark applications filed earlier. This research identifies identical or similar trademarks, so that the possible registration risks can be assessed before an application is made.

A trademark search is not limited to finding an exact match of the searched term. Trademarks may be similar in spelling, pronunciation, meaning, visual appearance and the goods or services they cover. For this reason a thorough search also needs to examine similar terms and the relevant trademark classes.
