Registering an industrial design gives the design owner a set of rights. One of them is the right to assign the design. The assignment process

Registered design: For a design to be assignable, it has to be registered first. Unregistered designs cannot be assigned.

Written agreement: An assignment requires a written agreement between the current rights holder and the new one. The agreement should list the numbers and names of the designs being transferred. The assignment fee belongs in the agreement too. For unpaid transfers, a symbolic fee can be listed.

Payment of the assignment fee: For the assignment to take effect, the fee has to be paid. Payment of the assignment duty is required for the transfer to be official.
