What Is the Nice Classification?

Trademark registration provides legal protection for the signs that identify your products or services. In the registration process, the Nice Classes assigned to products and services matter a great deal. The Nice Classes are an international classification system used during trademark registration.

Trademark classes categorize products and services during the registration process. Classes 1 to 34 are set for firms that manufacture, covering the classes used on products. Classes 35 to 45 cover services, used in applications from firms operating in the service sector.

Goods Classes (1-34)

Class 1

  • Chemicals used in industry, science, photography, agriculture, horticulture and forestry. Includes biological preparations for industrial and scientific use. Includes pectin, lecithin, enzymes, and preservatives used in the food industry. Includes vitamins used in cosmetics manufacturing. Also includes preservatives and antioxidants.

  • Fertilizers and soils.

  • Unprocessed artificial resins and unprocessed plastics.
