Who Can Become a Trademark and Patent Agent?

To become a trademark or patent agent, the following conditions are required:

1. Be a citizen of the Republic of Turkey

Foreign nationals cannot act as agents in Turkey.

2. Hold at least a bachelor's degree

Any field of study is accepted:

• Law
• Engineering
• Business Administration
• Communication
• All other bachelor's degree fields (There is no specific field requirement.)

3. Have no legal record impediment

You must not have been convicted of the following disgraceful crimes:

• Fraud
• Forgery
• Bribery
• Smuggling
• Misappropriation
• Corruption offenses

4. Pass the TÜRKPATENT agent examination

You must take the annual exam and achieve a sufficient score.

Exam types:

• Trademark agent exam
• Patent agent exam
• Both simultaneously if desired

5. Complete the mandatory internship

A candidate who passes the exam completes a 1-year internship under a registered agent at TÜRKPATENT.

6. Register with the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office Register

After the internship is completed, the agent title is officially obtained and registered in the register.

Who Cannot Become an Agent?

• Non-citizens of Turkey
• Those convicted of disgraceful crimes
• Individuals dismissed from public service
• Those who have received a severe disciplinary penalty incompatible with agent duties
