Who Can File a Trademark Application?
Almost anyone can file a trademark application in Turkey. Both individuals and companies can apply for trademark registration. The eligible applicant types are listed below:
Eligible Trademark Applicants in Turkey
1. Individuals (Natural Persons)
- All individuals residing in Turkey can apply.
- There is no requirement to establish a company.
- Turkish citizenship is not required (exception: foreign nationals must apply through a trademark agent)
➡ The most common method is trademark registration applications filed in the name of an individual.
2. Legal Entities (Companies)
- Limited liability company
- Joint-stock company
- Sole proprietorship
- Collective / limited partnership companies
➡ For applications filed in a company's name, a company official signs for the trademark.
3. Foreign Individuals and Foreign Companies
- Foreign nationals not resident in Turkey
- Foreign companies or organizations
However: Foreign applicants can only file an application in Turkey through an authorized trademark agent.
4. Associations, Foundations, and Public Institutions
- Associations
- Foundations
- Municipalities
- Universities
- Other public institutions
➡ These institutions can also register names, logos, or project brands.
