Who Can File a Trademark Application?

Almost anyone can file a trademark application in Turkey. Both individuals and companies can apply for trademark registration. The eligible applicant types are listed below:

Eligible Trademark Applicants in Turkey

1. Individuals (Natural Persons)

• All individuals residing in Turkey can apply.
• There is no requirement to establish a company.
• Turkish citizenship is not required (exception: foreign nationals must apply through a trademark agent)

➡ The most common method is trademark registration applications filed in the name of an individual.

2. Legal Entities (Companies)

• Limited liability company
• Joint-stock company
• Sole proprietorship
• Collective / limited partnership companies

➡ For applications filed in a company's name, a company official signs for the trademark.

3. Foreign Individuals and Foreign Companies

• Foreign nationals not resident in Turkey
• Foreign companies or organizations

However: Foreign applicants can only file an application in Turkey through an authorized trademark agent.

4. Associations, Foundations, and Public Institutions

• Associations
• Foundations
• Municipalities
• Universities
• Other public institutions

➡ These institutions can also register names, logos, or project brands.
